Banter or bullying? Navigating the line of acceptability

This course will give you a good understanding of the difference between banter and bullying. It will help to prepare you to take a whole-school anti-bullying approach to preventing the misuse of banter, identify bullying and harmful behaviours when they might be disguised as banter, and equip children and young people with the skills to navigate the line of acceptability between banter and intentional unkind behaviour.

It takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete.

You will be asked to complete a survey at the end of the course and will receive a CPD certificate upon completion. Your certificate will remain in the ‘My trainings’ section of the e-learning platform and you can click on the pink tick to download it at any time.

*Please note: All lessons must be completed in order to access/download your certificate. The menu on the left will track your progress through the course.

On completion of this course, participants will understand:

  • that banter is playful, positive and reciprocal
  • that aggressive behaviours, and even bullying, can sometimes be masked as ‘just banter’
  • how to equip children and young people with the skills to navigate the line of acceptability between banter and negative behaviours e.g.. bullying
  • how to embark on a whole-school approach to understand banter and prevent its misuse

Thanks to Nottingham Trent University Psychology for their input on this e-learning course.
