SENDIAS services, disability duties and the Equality Act 2010

This online learning course focuses on the disability duties in the Equality Act 2010. It sets out the key disability duties in the Equality Act 2010 and draws on Tribunal cases to consider some common problems. In addition, it also provides a focus on behaviour and disability discrimination.

The learning content draws on the CDC booklet: Disabled Children and the Equality Act 2010: What teachers need to know and what schools need to do. The focus of the course is on schools - we indicate where the duties are different for Early Years settings and Further Education colleges - more information pertaining to these settings is in CDC sister guides for Early Years and Further Education.

This course supports you in:

- becoming more familiar with the disability duties

- understanding how the duties apply in different situations

- supporting children, young people and their families as well as schools, settings and services, in relation to the duties

It is organised in 3 units:

1. Knowing who counts as disabled

2. Patterns and duties

3. Behaviour, exclusions and disability discrimination

The pass mark required for each unit test in order to move on to the subsequent unit is 100%.
