Family Help – Making it work for disabled children and their families training

22 May 2025 (virtual training)

CDC are committed to working with social care colleagues across the sector to ensure that the transformation in family support, to rebalance the system away from crisis intervention and toward earlier help considers the specific needs of disabled children and their families.

Building on CDC’s national, regional and local work on:

  • Needs-led eligibility and proportionate pathways to support;
  •  The role of Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) for SEND; and
  •  Short Breaks - The legal framework and co-developing a commissioning strategy

  • Introduction to the Family First Partnership Programme
  • What it means for disabled children and their families
  •  Proportionate assessment and person-centred planning
  • Workforce: the role of the DSCO and the Family Help Lead Practitioner (FHLP)
  •  Short Breaks and the integrated Family Help model

This training is designed for social workers, early help practitioners, multi-agency safeguarding partners responsible for implementing the transformation, DSCOs, Heads of Service, Commissioners, and senior decision-makers in local authorities.
